Inuyasha is based upon a Japanese folktale based upon supernatural monsters, demons, and spirits in Japanese mythology. It tells us the story of a dog half-demon who wants to achieve immense power by acquiring a powerful stone, the Shikon jewel. He lives in the forest near the village where the stone is secured by a princess named Kikyo but when dies the stone burns with her.
